New Book!
After the successful publication of two very popular books about Birchington’s rich history; editor of the Birchington Roundabout magazine Stuart Horner has teamed up with his wife Sarah and turned their attention (and camera) towards Thanet as a whole. Over the last twelve months they have compiled and produce a new book called “So you think you know the Isle of Thanet”. The book is packed with over 300 full colour photographs featuring Thanet’s beautiful heritage and some of its more unusual features.
Stuart explained the background to the book.
“Having spent the last three year studying and researching the past for the Birchington books it has been refreshing to record the present, particularly such a varied place as Thanet. The joy of creating this book has been discovering some of Thanet’s more obscure features alongside the wonderful buildings which surround us. Things we are all vaguely aware of but never seem to really appreciate. The pictures have all been taken during 2007 so can be fairly described as a snap shot of Thanet as it is today which I think is unique.”
Stuart continued,
“The publication also serves as a slightly unusual quiz book. Many born and bred Thanetarians have spent a happy hour or two testing their local knowledge on the details, some of the pictures are very familiar but it is ultimately tricky to pin point there exact location. People often end up shouting “where in Thanet is that?” - in amused disbelief”
The book will be available from shops in Thanet from early October and at the book signing event. Mail order from The Birchington Roundabout, 25 Alpha Road, Birchington, Kent, CT7 9EG. E-mail : info @ thebirchingtonroundabout.co.uk for more information.
